Foresight Business Group TCD

The Foresight Business Group TCD is a unique student body that has served the students and alumni of Trinity College for almost 50 years now. Its mission statement is simple, “To help enable achievement and excellence within the student body by fostering links between business students and the business leaders of today”. Not quite sure what that means? Let me break it down for you.

In a nutshell, the group provides a forum for interaction between business leaders that were once themselves students of Trinity and current students of the college. It does this primarily by organising its trademark Business Breakfasts where students and business people sit down together and share conversation.

The group also creates links between students and the people of the working world by organising debates, the publication of an academic journal and on campus events with recruiters.

The group consists of an executive committee which is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Head of Marketing and Communications. The group also has a number of reps for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year along with ordinary committee members.

or those of you who are unaware, the Business Breakfasts are a priceless opportunity to gain an insight into an industry/profession and to network with Trinity alumni who are now working professionals (who understand what it feels like to be a student).

Students who attend the event are placed on a table with business people who are currently working in the industry that they are interested in. This ensures that you get the chance to really engage with the people you are sitting with and utilise the time you have with them. This can range from them answering your questions all they way to a mentor relationship being established between students and alumni who have signed up to be a mentor on Trinity Alumni Online (Highly recommend this). If nothing else, attending these events will allow you to understand the importance of networking and how useful a skill it is to have! Not to mention that there is food at the Business BREAKFAST so that alone is a reason to attend.

I can say from a personal point of view that attending these events has shone a light on how knowing the right people in the right place at the right time can make all the difference in the world. Establishing a relationship with someone can only have its benefits so never underestimate the power of starting a conversation with someone. I have always been an advocate of the fact that the best way to understand something is to talk to someone who has done it already. I can’t recommend enough speaking to a business person who has experience in what you are looking to do after college.

So if it isn’t already clear to you, I would highly recommend making the most of the events that the Foresight Business Group organises. There is a Business Breakfast coming up on Tuesday the 12th February from 7:30 until 9:00 for which there are still tickets available so make sure to get yourself one of these before they run out, you won’t regret it.
